John DeDakis To Join 2014 Bookcamp Staff
We’re thrilled to announce that novelist and veteran journalist John DeDakis will join the experienced Novel-in-Progress Bookcamp teaching staff this May.
He will be part of the teaching program for emerging novelists on Wednesday, May 21, including presenting a session on organizing the novel-writing process, “Creating Order from Chaos: How To Stay Organized as You Write Your Novel.”
He will also be a participant in the publishing insights panel on Thursday.
John DeDakis is a former senior copy editor for CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. A native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, DeDakis is the author of three novels in the Lark Chadwick mystery-suspense series. The first two, Fast Track and Bluff, are set in south-central Wisconsin. DeDakis is a former TV reporter and news director. He been a White House correspondent and has interviewed such luminaries as Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. In 2013, he retired after 25 years at CNN to write and speak full time. He lives in Washington, D.C., and teaches journalism at the University of Maryland–College Park.
His books are described as “action-packed thrillers.” This is not too surprising from a novelist like DeDakis with such an illustrious journalism background.
For writers interested in the 2014 program, there are still a few open slots for this year’s intensive writing camp, May 18–24 in West Bend, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee. The featured author-in-residence is award-winning mystery novelist SJ Rozan. See the BookCamp Application page to register or request more information from program director Dave Rank, president of the Wisconsin Writers Association.
